Bugs and Glitches

Like all games, Eversion contains bugs and glitches.

Floating

In Eversion, you cannot jump if there is a block above you. However, if you jump into a 1-block wide space at a certain angle, Zee Tee will start floating for as long as you hold the jump button.

I switched Zee's sprite in the HD version with his freeware version counterpart, which changes his hitbox, and I was able to float incredibly easily by simply jumping up in a 1-block tall area.

Evert Anywhere

If you are teleported out of an Eversion point, whether through upwarping or through respawning, you will still be able to evert when you arrive at your destination. Can be reverted by simply entering and exiting the area of an Eversion point.

Gif of glitch (Spoilers) GIF of the infinite eversion glitch in Freeware. Zee Tee upwarps through a cloud, then continues everting until an error pops up. The error seems to be about an undefined method for nil.
Spoilers Can be used to reach 7-8 without all the gems by using the Eversion point in World 6's maze, then Everting anywhere within World 7. Can also be used to reach the end of World 8 quickly by activating the glitch downwards in Layer 7.

Upwarping

If you stand on a block that will become solid in the next Eversion (most easily seen in the HD version's World 2), you will be transported to the lowest available block. If this is done in HD World 2, possibly because of the use of an Eversion point, you may be able to Evert anywhere.

Spoilers Can be exploited to reach the end of Old World 8 quickly.

Minus Worlds

If you are able to Evert anywhere, you may be able to Evert past Layer 1 or the final layer. Commonly, going into zero and negative Eversions will crash the game, but if you are on the HD version, you may be able to Evert into worlds -1 though -7, which have misaligned background colours and backgrounds (Layer -6 has the background colour of 3 but the background of 2, for example). The last layer backgrounds appear before the first ones. Will have to research more.

Spoilers The Minus Worlds are as follows:
  • World X-9: Black background colour. Uses the tileset of the last Layer you were in. Ghulibas look like Zee Tee, and the blood effects appear. Have yet to see Stonies in this layer.
  • World X-0: Black background colour, X-8's background. In the freeware version, it has strange graphics.
  • World X--1: Purple background colour, X-7's background. In the freeware version, it has placeholder graphics.
  • World X--2: Red background colour, X-6's background.
  • World X--3: Orange background colour, X-5's background.
  • World X--4: Yellow background colour, X-4's background.
  • World X--5: Green background colour, X-3's background.
  • World X--6: Pale blue background colour, X-2's background.
  • World X--7: Blue background colour, X-1's background.

The Layers

Click on the layer's name to reveal its details.

Layer 1 The brightest layer, with happy blocks, flowers, indestructable bricks, solid trees and rose bushes, and unsolid clouds. The hills and clouds in the distance are of a dream-like quality. But Zee Tee doesn't have time to stare at the idyllic landscape. He has a Princess to save!
Features:
  • Fast Ghulibas
  • Blue Gems
  • Happy gem-giving blocks
  • Cannot destroy bricks
  • Harmless flowers
  • Solid trees
  • Solid rose bushes
  • Cannot stand on clouds
  • Rocks...?
  • Very happy Music

Layer 2 (Deception) The second-brightest layer. The blocks are slightly less happy, the flowers are wilting, and the clouds have become solid. The hills appear mechanical and clouds appear to be held up by strings.
Features:
  • Slower Ghulibas
  • Pink Gems
  • Happy-ish gem-giving blocks
  • Cannot destroy bricks
  • Harmless flowers
  • Solid trees
  • Solid rose bushes
  • Can stand on clouds
  • Why are there Rocks here?
  • Happy Music

Layer 3 (Erosion) The third-brightest layer. The blocks are even less happy, the flowers continue wilting, and the trees are now wilted enough to pass through. The hills erode and clouds start to fall.
Features:
  • Slowest Ghulibas
  • Red Gems
  • Indifferent gem-giving blocks
  • Cannot destroy bricks
  • Harmless buds
  • Non-solid trees
  • Solid rose bushes
  • Can stand on clouds
  • The Rocks don't seem to do anything...
  • Sad Music

Layer 4 (Desolation) Something strange appears as the darkness begins to show. The blocks are indifferent to our plight. Ghulibas can no longer move, and seem to be dead. The bricks begin to crumble. The hills do not seem to be here, replaced by a dark sunset. Plants continue to wither, though the rose bush stands strong, and clouds become thin enough that they are no longer able to be stood upon.
Features:
  • Immobile Ghulibas
  • Orange Gems
  • Indifferent gem-giving blocks
  • Can destroy bricks
  • Harmless sprouts
  • Non-solid trees
  • Solid rose bushes
  • Cannot stand on clouds
  • So why are the Rocks here?
  • Stagnation Music

Layer 5 (Apprehension) The darkness continues to spread. The blocks can no longer give gem. The Ghulibas seem to have been reanimated. The hills have mouths. Even the strong rose bush cannot help but wither in this darkness. The clouds have disappeared, and hellish hands rise from the depths of any pit a hapless fool may try to leap over.
Features:
  • Slowest Ghulibas
  • Yellow Gems
  • Horrified non-gem-giving blocks
  • Can destroy bricks
  • Harmless sprouts
  • No trees
  • Non-solid rose bushes
  • No clouds
  • There are still pointless Rocks
  • Hands from the pits
  • Creepy Music

Layer 6 (Confusion) The darkness grows deeper. Any living thing sprays blood as it dies. The sprouts that were once flowers are now thorns strong enough to spike any asterisk that dares come close. Even the brickwork will crumble if you step foot upon it. The Rocks seem to have changed. The hills are reaching out for you and clouds are screaming in pain. Who needs a SCORE in a dark place like this? It almost makes you wish for the brighter days of Layer 2.
Features:
  • Slower Ghulibas
  • White Gems
  • Horrified? non-gem-giving blocks
  • Can destroy bricks even by standing on them
  • Harmful thorns
  • No trees
  • No rose bushes
  • No clouds
  • The Rocks...
  • Hands from the pits
  • Familiar Music... Brings to mind Music of distant memory
  • What's with the SCORE?

Layer 7 (Commotion) Blood. Chasing blood, throwing devilish hands. The Rocks that seemed to have no purpose have come alive. The hills and clouds grow even more twisted. Having escaped the wall of blood, a counter of something with the number 240 appears. Is that the ???? counter? We seem to be at a tipping point.
Features:
  • Fast Ghulibas
  • ????? ????
  • ??? non-???-giving blocks
  • Can destroy bricks even by standing on them
  • Harmful thorns
  • No trees
  • No rose bushes
  • No clouds
  • Rocks... No, Stonies. Stonies are now active
  • Hands from the pits and wall
  • No Music...?
  • No SCORE

Spoilers (???/240) Layer 8 (Induction)

Our brave asterisk has gathered all 240 of the gems, and it appears that there is another Eversion point. A Ghuliba that was stomped on merely was stunned for a moment. The Ghuliba army must be hiding the Princess somewhere, and where else to hide her but in the darkest place possible? Features:
  • Fastest Ghulibas
  • Immortal Ghulibas
  • ???????? ????
  • ??? non-???-giving blocks
  • Can destroy bricks even by standing on them
  • Harmful thorns
  • No trees

All Endings Spoilers

The ending cutscene contains:

  • 1 Eversion point
  • 19(29) Gems
  • 13 Gem Blocks
  • 5 Flowers
  • 5 Ghulibas
  • 0 Hands
  • 0 Stonies
  • 0 Checkpoints

Why are these extra stats here, you may ask? It's because for some reason, there is an early version of World 1 behind the box the endings play out in.

Just the box has 10 Gem blocks and that's it. The Gem count in parenthesis counts these blocks, even though you wouldn't be able to get any gems out of the blocks because they're blocked off.
